AJAX is a very impressive application. It is by far the wave of the future where the web will go.
Many social networking websites use it. I believe Plenty Of Fish already uses it when you are looking at the additional photos of a user.
Another upcoming app is Ruby on Rails. I am studying it now. It is also an extremely impressive application to use when creating webpages.
